What are the advantages of using optional steering knuckles on our Mini-Z chassis?

First, it's worth noting that aluminum steering knuckles weigh virtually the same as plastic ones, but are much more robust and therefore much harder to break. Fitting optional aluminum steering knuckles will strengthen the front end of your race car. When making this change, it would be advisable to also replace the original steering column with a similar one made of aluminum.

Secondly, you should be aware that these adjustable steering knuckles, to facilitate contact between the knuckle itself and the suspension kingpin, include Delrin bushings or "inserts." These bushings are inserted inside the knuckle, one at the top and one at the bottom, and fit perfectly with the diameter of the kingpin. If the kingpin is also made of stainless steel, the knuckle will slide much more smoothly, and the suspension feel will be noticeably improved.

Finally, in the specific case of these optional steering knuckles, they allow for extra adjustment, providing 1g of camber. This pair of knuckles modifies the angle at which the wheels contact the track, and as you might expect, this produces a series of reactions different from those of the original geometry. They don't affect straight-line driving, but when we turn the car, the chassis itself rolls, changing the original camber angles. That's why we adjust the camber, in this case of the front axle, so that when we turn and the chassis rolls, the wheel maintains maximum contact with the track.

The greater the camber on the front wheels, the greater the traction we will have and therefore we will be able to enter the curve at a higher speed.
